Treatment for Cat Dandruff
By nature, cats usually just clean themselves by licking their furs on all of the areas that can be reached by their tongues. However, a cat owner cannot just solely rely on their cats for pet grooming. Any pet in the household has to be kept clean including the cats.
These felines can be prone to cat dandruff particularly during a hot summer. As a responsible pet owner, you must learn the signs and symptoms of dandruff in your cats and the effective treatment or remedies for this skin condition.
How will you determine that your cat has dandruff problem? The single most obvious symptom is an incessant scratching of the skin. If your cat normally cuddles itself by your feet or on somewhere comfortable and then suddenly becomes uneasily restless and would keep on scratching its body, there must be something wrong. Check the cat’s fur and skin for any presence of dandruff.
Once you find out that your pet has that skin problem, immediately prepare for simple home remedies to treat this condition. Sometimes, dandruff is a symptom of a more serious cat disease such as skin allergy or diabetes. So, it has to be prevented before it can even get worse.
Since dandruff conditions are triggered during a hot weather because of parasitic infection, keep your cat from getting overexposed to the sun by letting it roam indoors or when the sun has already set. If the air inside your house seems dry which makes your skin dry and tight as well, your cat must be feeling the same. For this, you can use a humidifier at home to keep the moisture in the air and will solve the dryness of you and your cat’s skin.
Regular brushing of the fur using a soft brush will also help in removing dry skin cells.
Obesity in cats is not good since they find it hard to clean the lower back part and the tail of their body, so dandruff easily develops on those areas. So if your cat is overweight, regulate his food diet so the pet will lose pounds. Talking about food diet, the quality and kind of food you give to your cat have the proper nutrients.
Poor nutrition makes the cat’s skin unhealthy. Food rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as tuna fish is advisable. Some cat owners use tea tree oil diluted in carrier oil which is also a very effective remedy for cat dandruff. Lastly, since dandruff can be caused by the use of shampoo, make sure that you bathe your cat sparingly and rinse the coat well.
A responsible cat owner knows the needs and problems of his pet and sees to it that the cat is in the best of its health.
